Kuli (Episodes 1-3)

Coolie (Ep. 1-3) is the gala premiere of the 2026 Taipei Film Festival, directed by Arvin Chen and Julian Acosta. Set in the 19th century, it follows a young Chinese woman who travels to Cuba as the promised bride of a Chinese coolie, navigating her relationships with her master and husband while witnessing the crucial role of Chinese laborers in Cuba's independence movement. Starring Chang Hsiao-chuan and Hong Kong actress Wang Tan-ni, the film was shot in Central America and brings to light an untold chapter of overseas Chinese history.
