Javier Arrebola Vocal Coaching Master Class
Javier Arrebola is a pianist, chamber musician, vocal coach, and music scholar. He is dedicated to deepening students' and audiences' understanding of music through interdisciplinary perspectives including history, politics, literature, poetry, geography, fine arts, and music theory.
His musical footprint spans Europe, North America, and Latin America, where he has performed, taught, and lectured at several internationally important music institutions. Invited collaborating and teaching institutions include The Juilliard School (USA), New England Conservatory (USA), University of Minnesota (USA), Bard College (USA), Tanglewood Music Center, Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (Germany), Shanghai Conservatory of Music, among others.
He has served as Co-Artistic Director and Director of the Piano Program at SongFest, Head of Piano in the Program for Singers at Ravinia's Steans Music Institute, Artistic Associate and Artistic Advisor for Carnegie Hall's "SongStudio," Chair of Collaborative Piano at Boston University, and Visiting Professor at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Academically, his research and teaching primarily focus on Art Song and chamber music literature, specifically including: Nordic song, Spanish and Latin American song, as well as German, French, and English art song traditions. Arrebola is fluent in Spanish and English, and familiar with German, French, Italian, Swedish, and Finnish, giving him a unique multilingual and cross-cultural perspective in researching and interpreting art songs.
He has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including: Renée Fleming, Graham Johnson, Dawn Upshaw, Will Liverman, Anthony Roth Costanzo, among others.
Beyond stage performances, he is also involved in video and digital music production. For example: serving as video editor and illustrator for Wigmore Hall's "Schubert in Life & Song" series (hosted by Graham Johnson), founding and curating SongFest's global online event "Songs of Unity & Hope," which brought together performances from over 60 countries in more than 40 languages.
He holds a Doctor of Music (DMA) and a Master's degree in piano performance from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, and degrees in piano performance and chamber music from the Madrid Royal Conservatory. His doctoral research included a large-scale performance project: performing all of Schubert's completed piano sonatas (using both historical and modern pianos), and completing his dissertation "The Unfinished Piano Sonatas of Franz Schubert."
