"Intimacy Under Gaze: Body, Love, and Writing in Eastern Media" Special Exhibition

Date: 2026-04-18 — 2026-09-27 Organizer: 曾霆羽;簡佑任;廖文豪
This exhibition is curated by artist Chen Jui-hung (Chen Jui-hung (陳瑞鴻), Project Assistant Professor, Center for General Education, National Penghu University of Science and Technology), responding to the contemporary context of rapidly circulating images and the high penetration of social media. Under the influence of digital culture, "intimacy" is no longer confined to emotional exchanges within private relationships but has gradually transformed into visual content that can be displayed, tagged, and even consumed. People crave to be seen by others through sharing, yet also fear losing the boundaries of self-protection through overexposure. "Intimacy Under Gaze" starts from this contradiction, exploring how intimate relationships are redefined between watching and being watched. The exhibition uses the calligraphic and diffusive qualities of ink wash painting, along with the decorative nature of gouache and the flow and layering of its mineral pigment particles, as its linguistic foundation. It extends from traditional literati painters expressing emotions in their paintings for self-amusement to contemporary creators seeking a moment of tranquility and solace in their hearts through the unique physicality of ink wash and gouache painting amidst the clamor of the vast world. The exhibition invites nine artists—Tseng T'ing-yu (曾霆羽), Chien Yu-jen (簡佑任), Liao Wen-hao (廖文豪), Chang P'in-tz'u (張品慈), Chen Wen-li (陳文立), Huang Ching-chun (黃靖淳), Chang Yu-hsien (張宇銜), Wu Po-ju (吳柏儒), and K'ang Li-sheng (康力升)—to present a total of 34 works. Through precise mastery of paper, brushstrokes, media, and space, the artists construct multiple viewing scenes, presenting diverse emotional layers such as tenderness, restraint, flamboyance, and tension. This allows viewers to enter the psychological tension field constructed by the works, becoming dual subjects of watching and being watched, and to reconsider the boundaries of their relationships with others.
