[Hsin-yueh . Music Appreciation] The Intertwining of Truth and Illusion: A Complete Guided Listening to the Musical "The Phantom of the Opera"

Date: 2026-03-31 — 2026-06-30 Organizer: 林伶美
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, "The Phantom of the Opera," one of the four great musicals, will tour Taiwan for the fifth time at the end of March 2026.

"The Phantom of the Opera" is the most widely known masterpiece of British musical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, with a global audience exceeding 160 million.

This musical is adapted from the novel of the same name by French novelist Gaston Leroux (1868-1927). The story itself is filled with a blend of splendor, mystery, horror, romance, and suspense. Under Webber's pen, all this is composed into stirring and intricate musical pieces.

📌 Starting 2026/03/31 (Tue), Professor Lin Ling-mei (林伶美) of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University will lead four guided listening lectures to introduce novelist Gaston Leroux and the original "Phantom of the Opera" novel, and trace the historical context of the story's setting—the Paris Opera House.

Additionally, we will deeply analyze composer Webber's creative style, decode the musical secrets behind each piece of the complete musical, and explore the deep meaning of the intertwining of truth and illusion in this musical through the melodies.
