Doctrine of the Mushroom God (菇神炮製論)

Artist Hsu Tung (許彤), a native of Hsinchu, is currently a graduate student and an assistant at a Chinese medicine clinic. Specializing in an anthropological perspective, she constructs narrative works on Taiwan's diverse medical and body culture through objects and imagery.

The work continues the creator's focus on Taiwan's folk medicine, inspired by the experience of elders turning to folk remedies and alternative therapies after falling ill. From this, she fabricates the worship of the "Mushroom God": patients follow orally transmitted steps to seek and prepare mushrooms, thereby establishing a new healing order through ritual amidst suffering. The exhibition incorporates interactive design, allowing viewers to personally participate in the preparation experience, feeling the flow of medical narrative, faith, and bodily perception between fiction and reality.
