"Classical and Romantic: Reason and Sensibility"
The Kaohsiung Chamber Choir, rooted locally for over twenty years, relaunches its "Classical Choral" series in 2026. The first half, led by conductor Chang Cheng-pu (張成璞) with the First Choir and vocalists Hsiao Han (蕭涵), Cheng Hai-yun (鄭海芸), Lin Chien-chi (林健吉), and Yao Ying-jen (姚盈任), performs Haydn's monumental "Nelson Mass." Within the balanced classical texture, the imagery of horns and war drums reflects the era's turbulence, highlighting free will within reason. The second half, led by conductor Su Yi (蘇屹) with the Second Choir, transitions into Romanticism, performing vocal masterpieces by Schumann, Clara, and Brahms. From unaccompanied part-songs to the four-hand piano accompaniment of "Neue Liebeslieder," German poetry is transformed into moving melodies, allowing the audience to appreciate both religious solemnity and literary passion.
