Chin Chang Ho Lecture Series No. 61: Lingering Melodies, Renewing the Nanguan Connection / Chin Chang Ho Mazu Narcissus Cultural Artifacts Hall
This event specially invites the Nan-sheng-she (南聲社) of Tainan, founded in 1912, to perform in Hsinchu. Nan-sheng-she is one of Taiwan's oldest and most representative Nanguan music clubs, having toured England, France, Germany, Austria, Japan, and Korea, and recorded and released six volumes of Nanguan Sanqu at Radio France, earning international acclaim. This performance is led by three Nanguan art preservationists, Chang Po-chung (張栢仲), Huang Mei-mei (黃美美), and Chen Yen-chu (陳嬿朱), presenting a full 90-minute Nanguan program—a rare gathering of masters! After the performance, the documentary Su Pu (宿譜) will be screened. Director Chen Shih-yun (陳詩芸) documents through film the life story of Nan-sheng-she's master Chang Po-chung, who, amidst the passage of time, faces his own aging and the challenges of Nanguan传承, yet continues to safeguard the art of Nanguan. At just 13 minutes, it is deeply moving and has won recognition in several documentary competitions.
