Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park Audiovisual Center Film Screening (Closed from March 2 to June 1 for Air Conditioning Equipment Improvement Project)

Date: 2026-01-01 — 2026-12-31 Organizer: 本活動無實體展演者
Film Introduction:
1. Aerial Tour of Chelungpu Fault Topography
On September 21, 1999, the Chelungpu Fault moved again, triggering the Chi-Chi earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3, causing 2,415 deaths, 11,305 injuries, and over 50,000 collapsed buildings in central Taiwan. On the surface, it left a rupture approximately 100 kilometers long.
Since Taiwan is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, earthquake disasters are frequent. Disasters affecting Taiwan include not only the 921 earthquake but also the 1935 Hsinchu-Taichung earthquake and the 1906 Meishan earthquake.
National Chung Cheng University is near the Meishan Fault in Chiayi, which caused the disastrous 1906 earthquake of magnitude 7.1, making it a high seismic hazard area. Chung Cheng University first established the Earthquake Research Institute in 1990 and founded the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in 2002. Besides actively cultivating talents in earth sciences, it also shoulders the responsibility of promoting earthquake education and disaster prevention attitudes and concepts.
This film is planned by National Chung Cheng University to lead everyone on an aerial tour along the Chelungpu Fault, understanding the impact of fault activity on Taiwan.
Recommended Audience: Families with children, students, teachers, seniors, general public

3. Earth's Limits - Tears of Sea Ice
TTV (Taiwan Television) team followed Taiwanese scientists to latitude 78 degrees north, the country closest to the North Pole, Norway's Svalbard archipelago, located in the High Arctic region. The team transferred flights three times and then took a boat before finally arriving at the Arctic research station. While exploring glaciers, they witnessed the moment of glacier collapse firsthand. The impact of climate change on the polar regions unfolded before their eyes. These floating ice pieces falling into the sea seem like tears of sea ice, and the constant icequake sounds seem like glaciers sending distress signals to humanity. Has humanity heard them?
Recommended Audience: Families with children, students, teachers, seniors, general public
