Bunun Traditional Backstrap Weaving Course
The Bunun people possess unique life rituals and traditional customs and have developed many distinctive and rich cultures. Traditionally, Bunun weaving matin-un not only holds an important position among female tribespeople but also deeply influences the daily life patterns of the ethnic group and has become a symbol of ethnic identity. In the past, the Japanese prohibited tribespeople from weaving. Today, facing changes in the cultural ecology, tribespeople's daily clothing and bedding rely less on their own weaving, leading to the craft being on the verge of being lost. The ethnic cultural context is at risk of breaking, making preservation and maintenance measures an urgent priority.
Eligibility: Tribespeople registered in Hsin-yi Township, who are passionate about traditional weaving and willing to learn.
Work or farming also leads to neglect of weaving, and various weaving techniques are becoming increasingly unfamiliar. Like learning the tribal language, it must start from daily life; it is indeed necessary to let weaving culture permeate life.
1. Through hands-on operation, produce a Bunun men's upper garment.
2. Enhance the importance of traditional weaving among township tribespeople.
3. Increase cultural identity among Hsin-yi Township tribespeople and showcase the beauty of the culture.
Actual class hours must exceed 2/3 of the total course hours (i.e., 115 hours) to receive the workshop certificate, deposit, and finished work.
