65 Craftsmanship Festival: Taiwan Craftsmanship Forum—2026 Yen Shui-long Lecture
June 5th is the birthday of Mr. Yen Shui-long (顏水龍), a pioneer of Taiwanese craftsmanship, and is also "June 5th Craftsmanship Festival." The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute specially holds the "Taiwan Craftsmanship Forum—2026 Yen Shui-long Lecture," inviting experts and scholars from fields such as craftsmanship, design, art history, and museum studies to re-examine Mr. Yen Shui-long's important contributions to the modernization of Taiwanese craftsmanship from perspectives including craft revitalization, transformation of bamboo craft design, industrial impact, craftsmanship in the era of globalization, and the practice of Taiwanese craft education in the 1950s.
Mr. Yen Shui-long was an important pioneer in the development of Taiwanese craftsmanship and design, and also a key figure in promoting the establishment of this Institute's predecessor, the "Nantou County Craft Research Class." He long devoted himself to craft education, industrial revitalization, and design promotion, guiding traditional Taiwanese crafts towards systematic teaching, modern design, and life application, having a profound influence on the cultivation of Taiwanese craft talent and industrial transformation.
This forum will, through keynote speeches and panel discussions, re-understand the historical position of Mr. Yen Shui-long in Taiwanese craft history, design education history, and craft industry development, and contemplate the inspiration of his craftsmanship philosophy for contemporary Taiwanese craft development.
Target Participants: Craft creators, scholars and students in the design field, cultural heritage preservation experts, museum professionals, and the general public.
