65 Craft Festival: Craft Pop-up Workshop - Metalworking Experience Course "Cuttlefish Bone—Understanding Taiwan from Ocean Traces" (7 Sessions)
In 2026, the 65 Craft Festival is officially upgraded to a national holiday. This day is not only the birthday of Yen Shui-long (顏水龍), the father of Taiwanese crafts, but also coincides with World Environment Day, allowing crafts and nature to be understood again from the same perspective. With "Slow Living SLOHAS" as the core, the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute connects craft banquets, markets, and diverse experience activities, bringing crafts into daily life to be seen and participated in.
During the 2026 "65 Craft Festival," a five-day limited-time "Craft Pop-up Hands-on Experience" is launched, inviting you to step into the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute and, beyond daily routine, try to do something different with your hands.
On-site, six professional craft masters personally lead, planning six major theme courses: metalworking, tree art, bamboo art, pottery, dyeing art, and lacquer art. Starting from understanding the materials to hands-on operation, each step can be slowly experienced and completed at your own pace.
Let's use our hands to write memories belonging to life, preserving the feelings of this moment in each unique piece.

Turning the texture of the sea into a piece you can truly hold in your hands.
Do you have an idea that materials from the sea can also become a golden metalwork piece unique to you?
In this class, we will start by observing the cuttlefish bone, feeling its layered texture, then slowly carve your own pattern into it with a carving knife. Next, pour molten tin metal into the mold, watch it flow, fill, and cool until the moment you open it, and the shape inside is clearly presented.
From carving to casting, participate in every step with your own hands, anticipating what the next step will become. What you complete is not just a metal piece, but a small creation that brings a trace of the sea into daily life.
Understand the texture and characteristics of cuttlefish bone material.
Experience intaglio carving techniques.
Tin metal sand casting process.
Complete a three-dimensional golden metalwork piece.
Note: The course uses carving knives; please pay attention to safety.
Participants:
Session 4 is limited to seniors/elderly (55 years and above); all other sessions are open to all ages. 7 people per session.
