[2026 Traditional Arts Event - Ancient Temple Legend] Taiwanese Opera Performance
Synopsis of "Ancient Temple Legend" (古剎傳):
In the mist-shrouded Black Mountain Lanruo Temple (黑山蘭若寺), Taoist Master Qingfengzi (清風子) adopts a mysterious infant born of spiritual energy, Mo Xuanming (墨玄明). With a birthmark on his forehead, he is connected to the bloodline of Black Mountain, able to sense changes in the mountain. He grows up as childhood friends with his junior sisters Chu Hanyan (楚含嫣) and Ling Zhiyin (靈芝音), aspiring to cultivate the Tao and save the world. After they rescue Du Wang (杜望) and take him as a disciple, a tragedy of love and hatred quietly unfolds.
From then on, a peerless demon king appears on Black Mountain. His face is like glass, with green fangs and a hideous visage that devours souls, commanding ten thousand demons. His once compassionate heart turns into a fire of revenge, and his former gentleness and kindness become violent arrogance. He struggles on the edge of love and hate, both narcissistic about his status as the chief of demons and anguished by the irreversible fate.
The Dadun Cultural Center (大墩文化中心) Nongyi Fang Taiwanese Opera Study Class (弄藝坊歌仔戲研習班) will perform this grand drama full of love and hatred on July 25, 2026 (115th year of the Republic).
