2026 Resident Researcher Special Activity 【June Session】 Cross-border Poetic Realism: Li Shuang-tse (李雙澤)'s 1970s Philippine Images

Date: 2026-06-05 Organizer: 唐慧宇
In Taiwan's art and literary history of the 1970s, Li Shuang-tse (李雙澤) was not only a pioneer of the folk song movement but also a cross-border image creator. During his folk song creation period, he left a batch of precious static images through the lens of photography during cross-border movements.
In 1977, Li Shuang-tse traveled to his father's hometown Philippines, leaving over 500 slides. This batch of images, curated by the National Museum of Taiwanese Literature, has been comprehensively梳理 for the first time. This lecture will lead the audience to flow between the Tamsui River bank and Manila Bay, reviewing how Li Shuang-tse captured the texture of Filipino people's lives, presenting a "poetic realism" rooted in reality and full of light and shadow aesthetics.
By comparing these images with Li Shuang-tse's written creations about Philippine colonial history, we will discover that these poetic images are not just travel records but also the emotional foundation of his reflections on geopolitics and colonial history.
