2026 Refined Hakka Opera Performance: "When the Gong Sounds"

Following Taiwan's cession after the defeat in the First Sino-Japanese War, local gentry Wu Tang-hsing (吳湯興) faces a life-or-death choice. He resolutely bids farewell to his mother and virtuous wife, rallying troops to defend the land. Subsequently, with allies martyred and supplies cut off, he cuts his queue, entrusts his child to others, and heads south with a determination to die. Facing the powerful artillery fire of the Japanese army, he abandons retreat and makes a desperate counterattack at Bagua Mountain (八卦山), ultimately sacrificing his life heroically for his country.
