Exploring Organ Music "The Storybook of Notes"

How can a black-and-white score with only notes and rests, through the skillful hands of a musician, inspire the audience's imagination and evoke vivid imagery? That is the magic of music! This month's selections for "The Storybook of Notes" are all melodies that successfully achieve this effect. Some are pieces without specific referents, such as Bach's Fugue in G minor, Shostakovich's "Waltz No. 2," or Gaddoni's "Variations on Mozart," yet listeners can create their own imaginative atmospheres within the beautiful progression of notes. There are also works with background stories, such as Farrington's "Voices of the World" and Price's "Elves Under the Moonlight," whose titles alone spark endless imagination. Paired with live organ performance, they lead everyone to flip through the storybooks of notes!
