2026 Changhua Children's Arts Festival: Slash Youth Creative Group "Where Are You Swimming To? (你欲泅去佗位?)"

Date: 2026-08-08 Organizer: 斜槓青年創作體
"Where Are You Swimming To? (你欲泅去佗位?)" is a non-verbal series work created in 2020 by the Slash Youth Creative Group. The story is inspired by a real-life stolen plane incident—in 2018 at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport in the USA, an airline ground service employee named Richard stole an Airbus and crashed it 90 minutes after takeoff. The work was first produced in 2020 as a 30-minute initial creative piece. In this attempt, the troupe experimented with shadow puppets, hand puppets, and mime physicality, seeking to explore new possibilities in performance vocabulary and establish a stage relationship with the audience that is both communicative and playful. Later in 2023 and 2024, the work launched a full 60-minute formal theater version and toured Tainan, Pingtung, and Hualien, sharing this work with different audiences. In 2025, "Where Are You Swimming To? (你欲泅去佗位?)" participated in the Taiwan Season of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The team once again revised the work into a small theater version closer to the audience, performing in Edinburgh and Bradford with a more intimate performer-audience relationship and new stage design.

Enjoyable for both parents and children, it is also deeply loved by senior citizens—when language is set aside, emotion has no age limit. During the Edinburgh performances, the troupe unexpectedly discovered that besides parent-child families, many senior citizens also came to watch. After the performances, they also gave the team many sincere feedbacks. These exchanges made the team more convinced that when language is set aside, the most authentic and direct interaction can still occur between body, light and shadow, and emotion. We hope to continue bringing this energy to more diverse audiences in the future.
